Injury Reduction is a culmination of your Strength, Physique and Resilience that reflects how much damage would need to be dealt to a specific area of your body to cause an Injury point.
First, calculate what your Injury Reduction would be by adding your Strength, Physique, Fortitude, Resilience and Willpower, together.
- You have a Strength of 8, a Physique of 7, a Fortitude of 9, a Resilience of 10 and a Willpower of 11. Your natural Injury Reduction would be 8 + 7 + 9 + 10 + 11 = 45.
Next, you would add any Specializations that would apply.
- If you took the Resilience Specialization of "Add +5 to your Injury Reduction" then you would apply that to your natural IR.
Lastly, if you have any armor on, then those areas that are covered, also receive an Injury Reduction bonus from the armor.
- You have a natural Injury Reduction of 25, +5 from your Specialization and are wearing Chain armor with an IR bonus of 51 where it covers. If you were struck in the armor, your total Injury Reduction would be 81.
Your Injury Reduction number is indicating how much damage you can take before you suffer an Injury on the particular area hit.
- You have a natural Injury Reduction of 34 and are struck in the right shoulder for 118 damage. After the 34 damage, you would have 1 injury. The next 34 damage, total of 68 would be 2 injuries. Finally, the final 34, total of 112 would be 3 injuries. This particular Attack and Damage would have done 3 total Injuries to your shoulder.
Applying armor can dramatically decrease not only the damage taken but also how many injuries you suffered from a particular hit.
- You are wearing Chain armor and after your Damage Reduction is applied, you have 124 damage that you will be taking to your left thigh. Your natural Injury Reduction is 24, and your armor has an Injury Reduction bonus of 56, giving you an 80. You take the entire 124 damage to your thigh but only take 1 Injury because you only surpassed your Injury Reduction once.
